Henri Matisse “Les Codomas” 1947
Year two at Bouquets to Art @deyoungmuseum. This time, I had the pleasure of interpreting one of Henri Matisse’s early collage works.
Les Codomas (1947) was inspired by his fascination with the circus and the fluid movements of acrobats. For this piece, I imagined flowers floating in the air—always in motion, defying gravity.
After many trials with wire and welding, I created a series of mobiles to capture the spirit of aerial dancers. Throughout the week, they shifted and transformed inside the museum, like acrobats performing in a circus ring.
